Bay City Best Top Picks for the Coming Week: Spa
As befits the burgeoning demand for upscale services in Northern California, what was once a hardware store and livery stable in Corte Madera is now Stellar Spa. The 4,500-square-foot building at 26 Tamalpais Drive, with more than two years of planning and renovation finally completed, opened Aug. 22, 2000. The three owners - Patrick Vande Weg, his wife, Dana Miller-Vande Weg, and their partner, Mary Anne Rubin - have worked to create a world-class spa with a "Hawaii-meets-the-South Pacific" ambience and special "signature services." It certainly would be hard to find Seawater Negative Ion Inhalation Therapy anywhere else in the region. For the curious, the treatment takes place in a specially constructed room (pictured), where guests breathe negatively charged ionized air and seawater mist. This treatment, which is thought to alleviate stress, headaches, allergies and jet lag, is offered by only three other spas in the United States. Other treatments include Self-Healing Seaweed Mud Therapy, Papaya-Pineapple-Ginger Polish, and both traditional and innovative massages. Eight different spa packages are available. Stellar Spa is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Reservations and information: (415) 924-7300 or www.stellarspa.com.
